MAZDA FD RX7 CUSTOM STEEL WIDE BODY OVER-FENDERS

Car: 1995 Mazda RX7 (FD), twin turbo

Class: Street car, grass roots drift car

Other Goodies: The owner of this car is a bit of a collector or rare JDM body kits and wheels for this car. The fiberglass fender we were reproducing is from a cheap origin knock off kit he uses for drifting. The car is actually an original twin turbo 13b car.

Part 1:

In most custom wide body or flare jobs, we are creating from scratch, but in this situation, the customer wants to reproduce the crappy fiberblass fenders out of a set of factory steel fenders with improvements where possible. It starts with profiling and measuring where the shape changes in the part to be reproduced.

Part 2:

Next-cut the OEM steel ones up to clear the tire.

Part 3:

Fast forward about 4 hours on the english wheel and shrinker/stretcher and you have a set of custom 20 ga fender flares.

Part 4:

You can see in this picture that we didn’t just replicate the fiberglass fender from steel, we improved upon it. The fiberglass one was not symmetrical around the tire and sort of drooped toward the rear. This was accounted for and corrected in our custom pieces.v
